The second volume in the autobiography of Australian art historian, Bernard Smith, following Boy Adeodatus. This tells of his life in the 1940s: from his marriage and early work in NSW to his formal training in London, meeting with other art historians including Anthony Blunt, domestic life at The Abbey, the London artists' colony.
