Under the Peasant's Skirt

Author(s): George Perko

Biography

In 1936 George Perko was ten years old and extremely happy living in cosmopolitan Budapest. Under the Peasant s Skirt follows his voyage through Budapest s cafes and cabarets, the disquieting effects of fascism and World War 2, the post war Soviet occupation of Hungary and communism, his escape to Paris and his eventual emigration to Australia. Few people can lay claim to dancing with Rita Hayworth, let alone been in the room with Norma Shearer and Orson Wells. Under the Peasant s Skirt is filled with memorable characters, amazing stories and details of a forgotten way of life. Sometimes sad, always with a sense of humour, Under the Peasant s Skirt tells of an inspiring life.
