Sounds Spooky

Author(s): Christopher Cheng

Picture Books

In a rickety old house, spooky sounds fill the air. Crashing and slamming; Snarling and hissing; Creaking and mumbling. Who...or what...is making them? I'm not scared. Are you? Filled with onomatopoeia this book with a delightfully spooky twist will have young readers listening for those spooky sounds and chanting, 'What's that noise that I can hear? I'm not scared!'

Product Information

Christopher's early years were spent near a large old rumble-tumble falling down house which he would often visit (but only as far as the fence) and he was forever creating storiesof spooky happenings there. Now he lives with his wife in a very old and sometimes crotchety, inner-city Sydney terrace. There are often creaking floorboards, knocking windows, rustling curtains, tapping sounds and scratching roof noises that happen for no reason at all ... but there are no ghosts there - or are there? Christopher has written the words for a children's musical, an animation and many fiction and non-fiction books. He has been a classroom teacher in schools and at the zoo, and he really enjoys playing with words and creating stories. He also loves bats, snakes and especially dragons! Sarah Davis has an honours degree in literature and a diploma of teaching, but no formal art training. She taught English, creative writing, and art in New Zealand secondary schools before moving to Sydney in 2004, and began freelancing in commercial illustration for advertising, film, editorial publishing, and toy design in 2006. She worked as an in-house designer for The Book Company, and as art director and senior illustrator for Childhood Heroes, producing books in association with high profile sports stars. In 2008, she decided to focus on picture books, and won the CBCA's 2009 Crichton Award for her first book, Mending Lucille by J.R. Poulter (Lothian/Hachette Livre). Subsequent books have been shortlisted for the CBCA's Book of the Year awards, the New Zealand Post Book Awards, and 'Fearless', her collaboration with Colin Thompson, won five national children's choice awards. In the past three years she has published twelve books, and has four more due for release in 2011-2012. http://www.sounds-spooky.com/
