Irina Dunn has been the Executive Director of the New South Wales Writers' Centre for nine years. After obtaining an English Honours Degree at the University of Sydney, she worked variously as a tutor in the English Department at Sydney University, as a Journalist, book editor, film-maker, school and TAFE teacher, university lecturer, writer and translator. She won a prize for her text A Natural Legacy: Ecology in Australia, which she co-wrote and co-edited with two scientists, and received an international documentary prize for her film Fighting for Peace. She represented New South Wales as an independent senator from 1988 to 1990. In 1999, she received a Graduate Diploma in Russian from Macquarie University.
